The first bonsai nursery we visited on this trip to Japan was that of Shinji Suzuki. It is an amazing experience to put it mildly.

I was asked on this trip "what's the nicest nursery you have seen so far?" then they followed with "but you cant count Shiji's". I find this to be an interesting train of thought and it got me thinking. It means Shinji Suzuki has broken the mold from what was considered great and set a new standard of quality. I don't feel it does any justice to his achievement of design and harmony without saying the rest should use his garden as an example of what they could reach for. I have to say that there where other bonsai gardens with very high quality trees but the gardens fell short of showing the trees for there true quality. If you had the option to only visit one garden this would be my choice and yes we did go to Kimura's as well. These are shots from our trip during kokufuten #90 so the junipers are showing there winter bronze color. This garden is a balance of beauty and function and within this environment you have some of best trees in the world displayed on a canvas that pushes everyone who sees it to try harder to achieve perfection. I hope you enjoy the following pictures below as Tyler was a great host as we spent hours enjoying these amazing trees.

An Amazing display area inside the greenhouse

Perfection is always in the details I love these crabs found resting on the water feature in the greenhouse display.

While posting pictures people have asked about the moss. Im most cases people say moss is only for show times. The moss seen growing here is partly environment in this higher mountain towns its cooler and moss is going to grow naturally fast and healthy. This is also not the invasive moss that most people put on the trees in the states that quickly grows into the bark or up the trunk. This moss is a variety of cushion moss giving a great look to the trees. If you do leave moss on year round remember to give extra care during watering so the tree is adequately watered.
